Soybeans, Too

Back Home Again in Indiana

2 Months

Guess who’s finally gaining weight!

This child refused to gain so much as an ounce for the first four weeks of his life which, while stressful, was part of my master plan to make all the girls hate him when he’s older and shares this story so he just lives with me forever (I have the same plan in place with Boogser’s enviable eyelashes). But after putting him on a higher calorie formula, he’s spent these last four weeks packing on the ounces and looking like we’ve been stretching him out on the rack we don’t have since this isn’t the Middle Ages. We’re still working on the chunkening, but his cheeks are coming in nicely.

It’s also taken two months to get some real smiles out of this kid. If you’ve never had kids, their first smiles are how you find out who the love of their life is. And this is how we learned he’s in a very committed relationship with all the inanimate objects. Ceiling fans, smoke detectors, picture frames, wall decals – he’ll smile at them all all day err day in his true player way.

Another thing you may not know if you’ve never had tiny humans is that around 6 weeks the bravery, stupidity, and stir crazy all combine forces and you suddenly find yourself venturing out into the world. We’ve been on many an exciting excursion to exotic places such as Conner Prairie, Target, and Kroger, where he made sure everyone knew he was there. Sidenote: most people find babies adorable and respond to their public crying with things like “I thought I heard a baby” so if you have a freshish baby and are scared to leave the house, you should be but also don’t be.

Other updates I’d put in a baby book if I had one: he started low key cooing last week, has been giving us 4 to 5 hour stretches of sleep for a few weeks now (a couple of times we even got a 6 hour stretch #blessed), and has rolled over twice in the last two weeks. I suspect it was more dumb luck than anything, but we’re still declaring him a prodigy. And anyone who tells me this means he’ll be crawling by 4 months and walking by 8 can just shut their mouth.

Oh well thank you! It’s nice to know the jokes are for someone other than myself. 🙂
